Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 1 cup (240ml) warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast or instant yeast
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 cups (375g) all-purpose flour

For Brushing:

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ tsp sea salt (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Activate the Yeast

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy (if using instant yeast, you can skip the waiting time).

Step 2: Make the Dough

  1. Add melted butter, salt, and 2 cups of flour to the yeast mixture. Stir until combined.
  2. Gradually add the remaining 1 cup of flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. (Or use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 3 minutes.)

Step 3: First Rise (Quick Method)

  1. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rest in a warm place for 15 minutes (near a warm oven or microwave with a cup of hot water).

Step 4: Shape the Rolls

  1. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape them into smooth balls.
  2. Arrange them in a greased 9×13-inch (23x33cm) baking dish.

Step 5: Second Rise

  1. Cover the rolls and let them rest for another 15 minutes while preheating the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 6: Bake the Rolls

  1. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

Step 7: Brush with Butter & Serve

  1. Remove from the oven and brush the tops with melted butter.
  2. Sprinkle with a little sea salt if desired.

Tips for the Best Rolls

✔ If using instant yeast, mix it directly into the flour—no need to proof it.
✔ Let the dough rise in a warm place for the best results.
✔ Brush with honey butter for a slightly sweet finish.

These One-Hour Dinner Rolls are soft, buttery, and incredibly easy to make—perfect for any meal!
