Snickerdoodle cookies are soft, chewy, and coated in a sweet cinnamon-sugar mixture. They have a deliciously tangy flavor from cream of tartar and are perfect for any cookie lover!


Ingredients (for about 24 cookies)

For the cookies:

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the cinnamon-sugar coating:

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

1️⃣ Preheat the oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or lightly grease them.

2️⃣ Mix the dry ingredients:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

3️⃣ Cream the butter and sugar:

  • In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together using an electric mixer until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  • Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

4️⃣ Combine the wet and dry ingredients:

  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix the dough.

5️⃣ Prepare the cinnamon-sugar coating:

  • In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar and cinnamon for the coating.

6️⃣ Shape and coat the cookies:

  • Roll the cookie dough into 1-inch balls.
  • Roll each dough ball in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully coated.

7️⃣ Bake the cookies:

  • Place the dough balls onto the prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may still look soft, but they will firm up as they cool.

8️⃣ Cool and serve:

  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
